Our story

Hi! We’re Sean and Ellie Graber, the founders of Screen-Free Kids. We were married in 2017, and we’re now the proud parents of 4 children – ages 5 and under!

Early on in parenthood, we made the decision to raise our children without screens. At the time, we weren’t immersed in the details of childhood brain development, and we weren’t facing situations navigating our own children’s screen time. We simply knew that we wanted to fill our children with wonder, expose them to incredible experiences, and help them connect with nature.

Since that time, more and more research has uncovered the harmful effects of screens, and parents are increasingly opting out. But still, raising children without screens is difficult. And it can feel extremely lonely.

We created Screen-Free Kids to empower parents to embrace screen-free parenting. We want to make raising children without screens easier by providing resources, ideas, and tips. And we want to make going screen-free less lonely by fostering a community of like-minded parents who can inspire and support one another.

Outside of Screen-Free Kids and parenting, Sean is a technology executive. He has an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, a Masters in International Economics from the Universidad de Valencia, and a BA with Distinction from the University of Virginia. Ellie is Physician Assistant who has worked in Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine at leading academic hospitals, including Dartmouth-Hitchcock and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital – though she has increasingly scaled back her hours to dedicate more time to raising her children. Ellie completed her Master of Physician Assistant Studies (M.P.A.S.) at James Madison University and has a BA in Communications from Rutgers University.
